I wanted to create a page to reconize all the amazing canines who have shared their lives with our family at one time or another. (page 1 of 2)
First there was Hombre. He was born April 30, 1982, and crossed the Rainbow Bridge March 15, 1995.
I was eleven months when he joined the family, and became my best friend and now guardian angel. His full name was Forester Hombre Vom Monroe, and him & I were attached at the hip. I remember sharing my pop-cycles with him, sleeping in his crate, reading him books, running over his tail with my big wheels, playing with his teeth (I was fasinated with those big chompers), sitting on his bed while doing my homework, exploring the woods near our house... and many many more stories. There couldn't have been a better childhood buddy than my German Shepherd named Hombre.
The second dog to share my life with us was Gypsy. She was born February 8, 1995, and crossed the Rainbow Bridge July 19, 2008.
I was 13 1/2 years old when I brought home this little bundle of fur just 16 days after Hombre passed. She was a 3/4 Husky, 1/4 GSD, and I named her Gypsy. Who knew that 13 1/2 years later, when I would be 27 years old, I would be saying good-bye to such a long-time amazing friend who had impacted my life in so many ways. It was difficult to say good-bye to the friend who saw me thru so much, like puberty, my first kiss, cancer, moving out of my parents, making it on my own but making it together, my first love, my first heartbreak, the loss of my GSD Diego, my wedding, and so on. All these major events and more she has been with me. I miss her, and I hope she has found Hombre & Diego at the Rainbow Bridge and they are having a great 'ol time together.
Rainbow Bridge Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. | |
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... Author unknown... |
